Pirates of Penzance

Have just watched Pirates of the Caribbean (pirated version, from BK) aka 'Pirates of Penzance' (Mutti's misguided old ideas) and must say it was a top notch swashbuckling film.

Am not normally fans of such films i.e swordplay and pirates and ships, and esp. not fan of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. The former is a bit too angular face wise, plus he's almost 40, the latter looks a bit like Beckham i.e feminine and if I wanted to watch feminine faces I would rent out 'Lesbian Spank Inferno' or similar.

BUT something about being put into a) heavy eye makeup and b) holding a sword gets me all 'ooh' and 'aah'. Plus they use the word scalliwag!!! Now that is a word that needs reintroducing. "You little scalliwag, ooh ar, ooh ar". Anyway, what is it with my female desire to be rescued? Does everyone have such un-20th century wants and needs?

Plus, I think that fashion should re-introduce the whole gypsy look for men (it works very well for Depp, that's for sure). Mmm. No hints there. And I think we should all go live in the Caribbean haunted by the threat of 'The Black Pearl'. With swashbuckling men coming to rescue us.

K? Fancy a life of debauchery away from here? :)
